Jake Jacoby, Executive
Director
Jake Jacoby formerly
worked (1996-1998) as the Executive Assistant to the Senior Finance Director
at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). There, he organized
special events, managed fundraising appeals, and served as a liaison between
the NRCC and the Speaker of the House's political office. Previously,
Jacoby represented Brandeis University in both Massachusetts as well as
their New York City office. Jake
has also served as a consultant to GOPAC, a political action committee
in Washington, D.C. and acted as a political aide on the 1992 congressional
campaign of Patrick Larkin.
Jake is responsible
for managing the day-to-day operations, as well as the overall strategy
and direction of ASET. These responsibilities include the legislative
and governmental affairs for ASET, as well as increasing membership, organizing
grass roots outreach, and coordinating media coverage for the coalition.
Robert
T. Pugh, Co-Chairman
Robert Pugh, Georgia-Pacific's
vice president, has more than 17 years experience in the transportation
and logistics industry. Currently, Robert leads the company's Building
Products Transportation and Logistics Division. This division supports
the motor carrier, rail and water borne transportation requirements for
six Georgia-Pacific building products manufacturing and distribution divisions.
These include Structural Panels, Lumber, Gypsum, Industrial Wood Products,
Distribution and Wood and Fiber Procurement - with a total of over 250
facilities throughout North America. In addition, Robert has responsibility
for Georgia-Pacific's five short-line railroad operations.
He began his career
at Georgia-Pacific in 1986 as a transportation analyst in the Distribution
Division in Dallas, TX. Since that time, he has been promoted through
several positions of increasing responsibility including his 1988 promotion
to division logistics manager in Crossett, Ark. In 1993, he moved to Atlanta
to become division logistics manager for lumber. He was promoted to general
manager - logistics design in 1996 and director - logistics services in
1997.
Prior to joining G-P
in 1986, Robert worked with Conoco Oil Company in Houston, Texas, in transportation/logistics.
He holds a degree in transportation and logistics from The University
of Tennessee.
Robert is a member
of the National Freight Transportation Association, National Industrial
Transportation League and Council of Logistics Management. Robert, his
wife Ti Anna and three children live in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Walter Bay,
Co-Chairman
Walter Bay is President
and CEO of Tandem Transport.
Borrowing $1,800 while
in college to purchase a 1959 GM 18’ straight truck and leased at .14
per mile to a small manufacturer of corrugated paper containers in Alma,
MI, was the start of Walter Bay’s career in the trucking industry. Now,
45 years later Tandem Transport currently employs approximately 220 company
drivers operating 240 tractors and 270 trailers plus 55 independent contractors
and small fleet operators. Tandem’s primary operations offices are based
in Michigan City, IN and the executive offices in St. Louis, MI.
Walter became an active
member of the Michigan Trucking Association in 1979 and served as an officer
from 1988 thru 1995, serving as president 1992-93 and as chairman 93-94
& 94-95. He currently serves as MTA’s American Trucking Associations’
V.P.
Steve
Williams, Board of Directors Member
Growing up in the
transportation industry and learning the lessons of the trade from his
"steel hauling" father, Steve Williams went into the transportation business
for himself in 1980, forming Maverick Transportation, Inc. where he serves
as President. A privately held logistics and transportation company headquartered
in Little Rock, Arkansas, Maverick provides mainly flatbed services in
the transportation industry, while utilizing well-trained employees, state
of the art information systems and a dependable fleet. Operating over
700 trucks, Maverick tailors its services to meet the needs of the customers.
While serving all 48 states, Maverick has a major presence in the Rustbelt,
transporting primarily steel and building materials.
Steve has been on
ASET's Executive Committee since 1999 and served as one of two primary
spokesmen for the coalition from 2000-2004. His involvement in the motor
carrier industry, namely as outgoing Chairman of the American Trucking
Associations, lends credibility to ASET as both a shipper and a motor
carrier alliance.
Dan Fleming, MBA,
Board of Directors Member
Dan was formerly Director
of State Government Affairs for the Truck Renting and Leasing Association.
Currently, Fleming is President of Fleming Leasing, LLC, a truck leasing
company based in Springfield, Virginia.
Dan handles day-to-day
financial matters pertaining to ASET, is responsible for the coalition's
web site and assists with legislative affairs.
Wayne Johnson,
Treasurer
Wayne Johnson is presently
Director of Logistics for American Gypsum Company out of Dallas, TX and
serves as Treasurer for ASET. In addition to being a member of ASET, Wayne
serves on the Board of Directors for the National Industrial Transportation
League where he also chairs the Highway Committee. Wayne has 28 years
of experience in the logistics industry, working for both a motor carrier
and shipper companies over that duration.
Wayne's role with
ASET is to maintain financial records and disperse them upon request to
any dues-paying member of the coalition.
