Fly-In

ASET held our fly-in event in Washington, DC on May 13-14 of 2008 to discuss our state pilot proposals with Members of Congress and staff. The ASET coalition met with nearly every single congressional office in both the House and Senate for the five targeted states that we urged support for in the upcoming congressional reauthorization bill -- Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Georgia.

Responses from congressional offices were mostly very positive and several Members offered their support immediately. The cost of diesel fuel, the rising congestion problem on our highways and the fact that if nothing is done our infrastructure will simply see more and more trucks on our smaller, state roads, all led to their decision to support the limited pilot projects.
