April 4th Fly-In

ASET's April 4th fly-in is shaping up to be a very exciting day. Members of Congress and their staff have shown considerable interest in attending our event. We expect to have a strong group of shippers, trucking executives, and commodity interests all represented in Washington, D.C. Currently, the following individuals are scheduled to speak:

  • John McQuaid, President & CEO, National Private Truck Council
  • Jim March, Team Leader for Truck Size & Weight Study, Federal Highway Administration
  • John Smith, President, CRST International
  • Dan Hammond, National Cattlemen's Beef Association
  • Matin Labbe, Transportation Information Consultant, Martin Labbe Associates
  • Dick Riederer, CEO, Weirton Steel
  • Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN)
  • Congressman Merrill Cook (R-UT)

New ASET Member

ASET is proud to welcome Archer Daniels Midland Company to our coalition. ADM is a leading agriculture company not only in the United States but worldwide. Their support of ASET will help us illustrate to Congress how important this issue is to the entire agriculture community. Allowing states to safely increase truck weights will be a benefit to the industry as a whole as well as their customers.

New Congressional Cosponsor

Americans For Safe and Efficient Transportation is pleased to announce a new cosponsor for H.R. 1667, the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act. Congressman Robert Ney (R-OH) has agreed to cosponsor H.R. 1667. Congressman Ney is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and also a member of the congressional Steel Caucus.

Joint Letter to House Agriculture Committee

An original sponsor of H.R. 1667, Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN), and one of our cosponsors, Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA), have sent a letter to fellow members of the House Agriculture Committee the week of March 13th. Many congressional offices within this committee have indicated a strong interest in our legislation and we are confident this bipartisan letter will lead to additional cosponsors. If you or your organization has any particular relationship with any Member of Congress on the House Agriculture Committee, please contact them immediately and urge their support of H.R. 1667.
