News From ASET - June, 1999ASET In The News ASET’s legislation, H.R. 1667 has been attracting a lot of attention recently. Various articles and opinion pieces have been written regarding the bill, many of which can be viewed in our Media Coverage section. ASET Director Peter Vroom has been interviewed by Transport Topics and The Journal of Commerce, as well as by Food Logistics Magazine and Inbound Logistics Magazine, for up-coming articles. Vroom also spoke to the Transportation Table at the National Press Club on June 11 to discuss H.R. 1667 and its objectives. Eric White, ASET’s Western Director, will be giving a speech to the Agricultural Ocean Transportation Coalition in San Francisco on June 18. New Members of ASET ASET is proud to announce new members who have joined with us to bring about greater transportation safety and productivity. AlliedSignal officially joined with ASET this month. AlliedSignal is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of truck brake systems, as well as automotive, aircraft, and electronic technologies. Another manufacturer, Hendrickson International, became a member of ASET as well. Hendrickson International is a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality suspension systems and components for trucks and trailers. As ASET moves to increase productivity through fewer but more effective trucks, manufacturers will play a key role in enhancing this effort. Also joining ASET is Wheeling-Nisshin, who is based out of West Virginia. Wheeling-Nisshin operates in the value-added segment of the steel industry. Steel coils are purchased from many suppliers and coated with zinc, aluminum, or a combination of both.
