ASET To Decide What Issues to Promote

ASET is in the deliberation stage of determining what truck size and weight issues we will lobby in favor of in the coming few years leading up to the next congressional highway bill.

As always, ASET will vigorously promote the 97,000-pound six-axle single trailer proposal. This issue has been studied at length and we have both the statistical evidence as well as company data to support the weight issue. Forecasts from both the DOT and other entities clearly spell out what will happen if we don't increase trucking productivity in the next few years. The question before ASET is which other issues should we support.

Currently, ASET has the strong support of NIT League and other shipper groups looking for advance efficiencies in truck movement. ASET has met and spoken to these groups asking for input and advice on what other productivity issues should be supported besides the 97,000-pound proposal. We are reviewing the possible proposals that include expanding double and/or triple trailers to more Interstates and regions within the U.S. If we do not receive enough support - both financial and political - ASET will return to the weight issue as its sole purpose.

If your company would like to participate in the decision-making process of what issue(s) to lobby for, please call Jake Jacoby at 703-549-9467 or e-mail him at jjacoby@aset-safety.org

Thank you.
