Ohio Steel Meeting
Jake Jacoby met with
members of the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council on December 12, 2000.
Executives from steel companies such as AK Steel, Republic, WCI, Timken,
LTV, and others attended the event with state representatives and senators
to discuss the issues facing the steel industry. Jacoby spoke to the group
regarding ASET's strategic and legislative goals for 2001. The meeting
was informative and our hope is that it will lead to a broader discussion
amongst steel companies as to the importance of ASET's legislation to
their transportation policy. Some of the issues discussed at the meeting
were congressional targets for sponsorship of our bill in 2001 and how
the steel industry could benefit from allowing higher weight thresholds
on the Interstates.
New Co-Chairman
Named
Steve
Williams, President and Founder of Maverick Transportation has agreed
to become ASET's Co-Chairman and chief spokesman for our coalition. Steve
joins Mike
Regan of Tranzact Technologies as ASET's industry leaders. Steve replaces
John McQuaid after John's crucial role in expanding ASET's base and media
recognition. To read the rest of this article, click

Planning for
2001 Underway
ASET is in the midst
of planning for 2001 as we gear up for our most important year yet. We
anticipate reintroducing our weight legislation by the end of January,
2001 in the House and soon after in the Senate as well. Our goals for
next year also include an ambitious media campaign designed to attract
not only transportation and industry leaders, but to also educate Members
of Congress on the importance of our productivity and safety legislation.
In addition, ASET
will hold our second Fly-In Event in April, 2001 and all members and interested
parties are invited to attend. We will hold meetings with individual Members
of Congress from both political parties to discuss our legislative objectives.
The event will also serve as a forum for speeches and discussion on transportation
policy from experts in the shipper, motor carrier, and other related industries.
Our first event, on April 4, 2000, was a huge success and we expect greater
attendance and participation in 2001. To learn how you can join ASET in
Washington, DC for this event, please contact Jake Jacoby at (703) 549-9467.
